At tonight's city of Owosso council meeting, city manager Greg Geutschow said it was obvious he did not have the support of the majority of the council and he tendered his resignation effective one week from today.....that would be February 12, 2007.

They have to put a severance package together for him.

HA! He gets a severance package, walks out the door and leaves behind a legacy not to be believed. The very least of which is the 20 years of assessments on the Owosso Drain. Nothing will fix that, but maybe some of his other major boos can be 'repaired'.

Can the city council function without a 'manager'. Likely not, they don't get paid enough.

The shrimp got fried..............that's cool

Wow! That is a huge surprise!

Was the Argus-Press guy there tonight...or do I have to wait for the Sunday Independent to read the story? :(

Yes, the Argus-Press was there. Liz Shepard is the very capable reporter for the paper. Bill Constine was there also and he took some pictures for the Independent.

Wow ! ! ! How cool is that?

We'll get the story in both papers.

Wonder if either of them will consider that "the good guys are cleaning house"?

Well, they might be.

Did the Mayor & council officially accept Guetschow's resignation? If it wasn't accepted, they still have a week to kiss and make up... :(

I wonder how long it will take to find a "qualified" person as a replacement? Cities even smaller than Owosso have paid city managers far more than this one has been making and had less of a work load as well.
What I mean less of a work load is many cities smaller than Owosso also have a Deputy City Manager as well as a City Manager to lighten the work lode on the City Manager. Even the little city of St Johns Michigan pay it's City manager more and he has a Deputy City Manager.
I have a feeling it is going to be very hard to find a good replacement willing to work for the kind of wages Owosso is going to pay and with no Deputy City Manager to lighten the work lode that is going to be nearly impossible to do.
Perhaps we can find someone fresh out of school with no experience to take this job.

While I give alot of props to Gary for his letter to the editor and the pressure he's put on Owosso city council, I do have to wonder what people will find after this man has left town.
He seemed to enjoy his power trip and for him to walk away from it all, seems kinda strange to me.
I feel there are skeletons that will be unearthed, heaven only knows what it could be.
Then again, I could be just looking for something that isn't there?
Who knows, I do wish Owosso luck!

Front page article. Mayor & Ford support... nothing from Horvath in article. GG is going to finish his PhD and move on. The severance "package" better be light since HE is RESIGNING and $ is tight.

Money is going to be real tight now since the search for a new city manager could cost as much as $60,000 or more because the state of Michigan will also have to be involved in this process and that takes even more money. I have a feeling the citizenry may also find it is time to recall the entire City Council and start fresh as well since it has been common knowledge that some members of the City Council wanted to push out the current City Manager. Well that wish has been obtained, now it is going to cost the tax payers dearly to do a search to find a new qualified person to fill the vacant spot.
I wonder where we will have to cut things to cover this cost.
