too bad the SRCC deleted it and responses from myself and stealthnblue

I do have captpica and stealthnblue's response to my post in my email and if they have mine....could even repeat it here

I think it is worth repeating.....but may have been the nail in the coffin of the SRCC "Open Forum"

Then here goes. This is the Open forum after all, all topics are fair game. Especially ones that concern and affect our fellow county residents.

"Stealthnblue" replied to a post by captica about his displeasure with Owosso City Council with this:

So you don't like what's happening. Let's examine your choices:
1. Start a recall effort (this involves finding enough people that
care)
2. Run for election yourself at the earliest opportunity.
3. Move out of the affected city. Now it's not your money they're
wasting. You vote with your (tax) dollars.

I took option three. Options one and two require that part of the
electorate care and I did not see enough evidence of that to warrant me getting involved. The City (not Owosso) still continues it's destructive
behavior to this day. I do regret not moving sooner.

I have never lived in the City of Owosso, but when their scheming and
conniving came all the way out to Bennington Township and put a tax
assessment on property my family owned, I started sticking my nose into what the city does.

My next choice (and I am not alone in this) is to spend as little money
as possible within the city limits. I do not do business within the city
limits if there is any way to avoid it.

Oh gee, downtown businesses are having a rough time. I should hope so.
So you're boycotting city businesses. I completely understand, however (IMO) it's important to let the businesses know why you're choosing to go elsewhere. Antipathy (even by business owners) is the real enemy. It allows the city council to continue blundering about or worse, adhere to their own hidden agenda.

Having some experience with boycotts (Detroit United Farm Workers, AFL-CIO full-time Grape Boycott STAFF, 1969-70, http://www.farmworkermovement.org/essay ... _Kevin.pdf ) I can guarantee that Owosso businesses are NOT suffering from one person refusing to shop/eat at their establishment.

It takes an ORGANIZED effort by a LOT of people TELLING the business owner why they don't support them before any effect is noticed.

In MY Opinion, Owosso business owners go out of their way to show appreciation to customers, thus ensuring continued returns. I prefer to give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism (where/when possible) to help IMPROVE the business and as a result, MY community.

Namaste.

I agree with Kevin (God forgive me!;);)). I'm not sure what all the City bashing is about. In retrospect, the SRCC forum, if maintained and financed by city resources (Chamber of Commerce), it is no wonder they refused to sponsor the forum anymore.
I fail to see how the City of Owosso can tax property outside of the city unless the complainer is talking about the library millage which people in the townships voted for in support of a DISTRICT library and not a city library.
Township residents utilize city services more than one would think. Businesses in downtown Owosso or Corunna are taxed much more heavily than townships. I live in Caledonia Twp but consider myself an Owossoite or is it Owossonian? I daily make my trek into Owosso to use the post office, banking, newspaper office, have a cup of coffee, and enjoy the plowed streets, clean sidewalks, Christmas decorations and lights on the streets. I'm glad the city has handled the leaf burning issue as previously fall was a choking smoke filled experience for me living just on the windward side of the city. In previous posts I have often praised the downtown merchants for their dedication to service and community pride and like to think of myself as part of that community.
I do not understand this talk of boycotting City businesses. Seldom do I shop at Wal-Mart and I am not totally at odds with them but they have driven many communities to despair. Owosso is NOT dead yet as many communities our size are across Michigan. I support downtown businesses because they support me.

captpica posted his displeasure, I responded that I was glad somebody at least understood what was going on. captpica repsoned with

..And did you catch the little tidbit in the Argus-Press article where
Owosso's "MUZZLING" MAYOR ROBINSON ordered a councilperson NOT TO ANSWER a
question posed by a TAXPAYER????
...The reason given by HERONNER was that "the question had been asked and
answered previously".

What gall! Imagine a PETTY little fifedom where the PEONS and SERFS are NOT
allowed to ask the ROYALS the same question twice:

"WE WILL NOT REPEAT OURSELVES, PEONS, SO STFU!"

...and life goes on in Mayberry... :(

and I responded with a smilie face "oh well"

Then stealhnblue responded to my *NM* smilie face as you have listed.

Since I never lived in the city none of his options were available to me.

I believe there are still councilmen on the city council that might recall why I and a few others do business elsewhere. It was never a secret.

I know I was a little rough on the Owosso City Council with my posts on the other board, but were my comments REALLY harmful enough to justify killing the Shianet forum?

I would hope that our city fathers (and mothers) aren't so thin-skinned that they have to resort to CENSORSHIP to stifle the opposition.

But then again, stranger things have happened here in Mayberry. :reindeer:

"nail in the coffin" may have been the reference to commerce.....

as in not doing business within the city limits.....

SRCC is promoting commerce

and this would be pretty much proof that the SRCC was still "The City of Owosso CC" and not "The Regional" as they changed their name.

I still do business within the region.........just not the city of Owosso
